What a weekend — We saw cumulative violence against black Americans by law enforcement inspire important action and unity, and at the same time, we also experienced inspiration from sending two astronauts to space in a historic mission. While on opposite sides of the spectrum, hopefully these experiences will motivate you to step outside your comfort zone. Venturing into the unknown can be scary, but taking risks can also lead to several benefits, including positive change.

Speaking of risks, startups experience that daily. However, the fruits of their labor don’t always go unrecognized, as is evident in last week’s big announcement of the 2020 Cool Companies by Connect with San Diego Venture Group. So many great companies are on the list, including a few I have invested in and others I hope to meet. Hear from a few of this year’s “Cool Companies” in my recent podcast interviews with Kim Walpole of Trials.ai , and Elle and Ellory of The Atlas .

This week’s Taco & Tech podcast features Stan Kim , who talks about his wide-ranging experiences in starting companies in many of San Diego’s key industries. Meanwhile, our AzTech piece on TOVI is a great example of San Diego companies pivoting during Covid-19. Give it a good read and share.

Be kind and understanding.

Onward and upward,

Neal
